Making with Data at Information+ Conference

While digital technologies have revolutionized how we represent data visually, humans continue the thousand-year tradition of creating physical representations. These physicalizations are experiencing a dramatic renaissance, fueled by a growing enthusiasm for all things data and driven by new fabrication technologies, materials, and processes. To highlight the diversity of approaches, we present five themes that capture how people are “Making with Data”. We showcase several first-hand accounts of artists, designers, and scientists creating rich and exciting art pieces, projects, and installations that bring data into the physical world.

Together with Samuel Huron, Institut Polytechnique de Paris, and Lora Oehlberg and Wesley Willett, University of Calgary, we are participating at the Information+ Conference in the panel “Getting Physical”.
